3 Ways to Go Green Without Spending a Dime

Updated: Feb 8, 2019

The excitement of tackling your health goals can quickly be derailed when hefty price tags come into view. Clean eating meal plans, a new gym membership, and of course insta-worthy workout gear can add up quickly. Can't you be healthy without breaking the bank? Oh yes, you can!

Here are three simple tips that will help you incorporate clean living strategies without having to open your wallet.

Take your shoes off and stay awhile.

It’s time to leave your crap at the door. Literally. Just think about where you have been all day. Visited a restroom? Walked on a city street? Each day we walk through a gross amount of filth including fecal matter and bacteria, much of which is resistant to household cleaners. By taking off your shoes before you enter your home you’ll reduce the amount of toxins you carry in and bonus, you’ll be able to spend less time cleaning and protect your floors from additional wear and tear at the same time!

Skip the fragrance.

If you aren’t already using a healthy hybrid option, you could unknowingly be spraying harmful ingredients on your body every day. The term “fragrance” is legally considered a trade secret and companies can introduce undisclosed (and potentially harmful) ingredients into the product leaving you in the dark about what you’re exposing yourself to. If you are committed to your scent, you can still minimize your exposure by spraying your clothes rather than your skin.

Wash before you wear.

Clothing is often sprayed with chemicals to help prevent anything from growing on the garment while it’s being shipped and also to enhance the overall look of the item as well. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate my clothes not having mold on them when I make my purchase, however I do not need the same protection for my skin. In fact, I don’t need the exposure to harm that the chemical will inflict on my skin, either. These harmful chemicals may not always irritate your skin but by having direct contact with your skin, you are opening yourself up to more harm. But I have good news! You don’t have to forgo shopping altogether, you simply need to wash your clothes before you wear them. A simple wash with a safe laundry detergent is all you need to clean up your clothes (in more ways than one)!
