Eco-Friendly Kitchen Checklist

Now, I’m not one to slave away in the kitchen all day but a girls’ got to eat! And while I may not be a pro at whipping up an insta-worthy meal, I do know a few ways to make for a more eco-friendly and safe kitchen.

Pots and Pans

This is a big one. What you cook your food in matters…a lot! Traditional nonstick pans contain some incredible harmful ingredients that release into your food and then ingested into your body. Not cool, bro. But I have good news, you have options. Opt for cast iron or, my personal favorite, a safe nonstick option like The GreenPan. Both options will protect your food and reduce your overall exposure to harm.

Storage Containers

With the rise of meal prepping, more and more people are relying on storage containers for their food multiple meals a week. What you store your food in is as important as the quality of ingredients you are using to make said meal. Ditching plastic containers, even reusable ones, is a quick way you can reduce your exposure to the toxic chemicals that leech into your food. Not to mention, reducing your plastic consumption helps reduce the harm caused to the environment. A simple switch to glass containers or safe silicone makes for an easy swap and safer storage.

Dish Soap and Dish Washing Liquid

It seems a bit ironic that we have to talk about dirty ingredients in a soap meant to clean your dishes but here’s the truth- many common brands in the market contain several toxic ingredients that are linked to health issues. They can be absorbed into your skin, they can leave residue on the “clean” dishes, and they can be washed down the drain and eventually make their way into main water systems. By switching to a safer option, like Seventh Generation, you can immediately reduce your chemical footprint and keep your dishes squeaky clean at the same time!
